Commission Process

Commissioning a painting is a very specialized process – one that I approach collaboratively with the client. To begin the commission process, the client and I will sit down and go over all of the details associated with the commission and creative process. At this point, if the client determines that we will move forward with the creative process, a contract will be signed and a deposit made.

Once we move into the creative process, we will work closely to determine the “story”, theme, mood, size and background elements of the commissioned painting. We will explore the subject from all creative points of view, scenarios and conditions. I will be documenting all ideas discussed. Preliminary sketches will be made from my observations, meetings and creative sessions. Detailed photo references will also be obtained if determined necessary.

Depending on the complexity of the commission, this initial process takes place in one or two meetings, each lasting at least an hour.

From all of the materials gathered, I return to my studio to generate a color composition sketch for the client’s approval. Upon consent, I will begin painting the commission. If necessary, I may request additional meetings to aid in the commission’s completion. Delivery is arranged upon completion of the painting and client approval – adjustments may be necessary and will be accommodated openly as client satisfaction is guaranteed. Once final approval is received, an official “unveiling” can be scheduled.

I feel strongly that all finished works should be unveiled to the client framed so I am happy to provide a frame that is aesthetically appropriate.

· A nonrefundable deposit of 40% will be due upon contract signing. Balance due at completion of commission and acceptance by client. All Major Credit Cards accepted (M/C, V, AM, D) Payment terms can be flexible and spread over a maximum of four (4) payments if the client chooses.
